The Raleigh Durham Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators consists of more than 60 members representing law firms and legal departments in and around the Raleigh-Durham area and eastern North Carolina. This chapter was created over 30 years ago to provide a local forum to support and promote the professional development of legal management professionals through interaction with their legal management peers and legal services business partners in an education-driven environment. Our Chapter strives to collaborate through the collaboration of the Chapter Board of Directors, Committee members and business partners to advance your knowledge, resources and networking in the legal management community. The ALA chapter of Raleigh Durham shares the mission of the Association of Legal Administrators, which is to improve the quality of management in legal service organizations. promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of legal administrators and all members of the management team; and represent professional legal management and managers vis-à-vis the legal community and the community at large. In addition to our monthly section meetings and other scheduled events, we provide members with additional information and resources to raise awareness of current trends and developments in the legal industry. Examples include the creation of the Raleigh Durham Chapter Annual Salary and Benefits Survey, hosting free ALA webinars for members, and purchasing ALA National Education Conference materials for general use by members. The Raleigh Durham Legal Administrators section offers a variety of benefits that are not only available through a national membership. Our section focuses on educating members on current issues relevant to legal management, with expert speakers on new topics at each monthly chapter meeting. Where possible, each training session is designed to credit eligibility for CLM certification and/or CLM recertification.
Chapter events also make it a point to offer members the opportunity to network with their local colleagues and our valued business partners – perhaps the richest resource available. Through chapter meetings and special events, we aim to connect you with local business representatives who focus on your needs. Each new member of the Section is assigned a mentor who is an experienced legal administrator who greets and guides them. As a resource to answer questions not only about the chapter, but about legal management in general, our mentors are motivated to minimize adjustments from those who are new to the chapter or legal management. The Raleigh Durham Chapter is also hosting a second biannual Chapter Educational Conference, where our Chapter members and business partners had the opportunity to receive a high-quality education and create meaningful networking. Our next chapter educational conference is scheduled for 2018 – check back later. The Raleigh-Durham Chapter encourages interested members to pursue a professional designation as a Certified Legal Manager. Through grants, study materials, study groups and other resources, the chapter supports the goal of the CLM program to increase the recognition of professional qualifications for ALA members.
