Ask your landlord or property manager to seal cracks and crevices to prevent bed bugs and other pests from entering the home. Never take furniture found on the street. If you think you have been around bed bugs, wash and dry your clothes immediately for at least 30 minutes over high heat or keep them in a sealed plastic bag until you can wash them. And if you`re drinking a fruity cocktail, note that the canned citrus juices many bars use can legally contain five or more fruit fly eggs or other fly eggs per cup (250 ml). Or that cup of juice could contain one or more maggots. Apricot, peach and pear nectar can contain up to 12% moldy fruit. Inspect first! Frozen or canned spinach can contain an average of 50 aphids, thrips and mites. If they are missing, the FDA allows spinach worm larvae or eight whole minary beetles. If you`re not careful, pesticide abuse or other control methods could be worse than bed bugs themselves. Sometimes people promote dangerous or illegal ways to eliminate bed bugs through websites, blogs, or word of mouth. Just because something is legal doesn`t mean it`s safe, smart, or effective. It is important to remain patient and level-headed in the fight against bed bugs, and not to do something out of desperation that leads to more dangerous or costly problems. The EPA regulates pesticides that can be used against bed bugs.

Our jurisdiction does not include the kind of reporting and management requirements that states have. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has guidelines on how to control bed bugs in social housing. Colorado has a specific set of laws regarding bed bugs. This fact sheet does not specifically address bed bugs. If you notice mistakes before signing a lease, don`t sign the contract, even if the landlord promises to correct the mistakes before you move in. If the landlord then refuses to keep the rental unit for you, they may be doing you a favour. If you notice any errors after signing a lease and moving in, notify the landlord immediately and request an on-site inspection. Take pictures. Capture sample errors if you can. And you may have to file a complaint in Small Claims Court to force the landlord to pay back your deposit and prepaid rent. NOTE: There is no law requiring a landlord to pay for temporary housing while you look for another place to live. Bed bugs can be found in houses and apartments, office buildings, shops, buses – wherever there are people. They are excellent hitchhikers and spread by moving furniture, clothing or other objects from one place to another. Landlords often claim that the tenant caused the insect infestation. In some circumstances, a landlord may be forced by a local health department to correct defects, especially if several adjacent rental units are infested. However, if only one unit is infested and the tenant has lived there for a long time, it is easier for the landlord to blame that tenant. Check with your state and local authorities for changes to these requirements or to see if your state or city has recently issued a requirement.
