Until recently, when applying for a new work permit and residence visa at JAFZA, the online system automatically generated a fixed-term employment contract with a 3-year contract duration (renewable). Neither a permanent contract nor a fixed-term contract of less than 3 years could be agreed. This administrative practice led to situations where workers were officially employed for a limited period, although in many cases the parties intended to conclude an employment contract of indefinite duration. Violation of building codes and Trakhees design guidelines, or construction that is not included in the building permit for a project, or when a certificate of completion is not obtained after construction, will expose the client to liability with fines and non-financial penalties, as indicated in the applicable regulations and the list of tariffs and penalties or fines. Fixed-term contracts are accepted when an employer needs employees to participate in certain projects or durations. Following the UAE`s recent labour market reforms, fixed-term contracts are valid for a maximum of 2 years instead of 4 years as was previously the case. The contract must also include termination. 10.2.1 Each year, a Customer shall take out liability insurance (or professional indemnity insurance) and workers` compensation insurance for its employees in accordance with the PPE. A customer who requires an increase in power supply must submit to Jafza a permit application with the reasons and justification for the increase in consumption, which Jafza approves in its sole discretion. 11.1.7 Jafza may provide certain investors with an investor visa subject to applicable rules and guidelines.
