Water Craft Legal Definition

(1) engage in the manufacture or sale of new or used containers; (2) have an establishment established for the sale, trade and exhibition of the vessel; and “slowdown-no wake,” driving a boat at the slowest possible speed necessary to maintain steering, but in no case more than five miles per hour. Ship: any description of craft or other man-made equipment used or likely to be used as a means of transport on the water. “en route or in operation” means a vessel that is in service or in operation, unless it is securely attached to a wharf or other fixed berth. `waters of that State` means waters which may be exploited of significant interest to the public and waters to which the public has access, which lie within the territorial limits of that State, including adjacent waters; (3) Possession of vessels for sale or trade. “Commonwealth Waters” means all public waters within the territorial limits of the Commonwealth, the adjacent marginal sea, and the high seas when navigated on a voyage or voyage to or from the coast of Virginia. Inboard engine, in the context of an engine, means an engine mounted within the confines of a ship that drives a propeller shaft that spins a waterjet wheel or passes through the bottom of the hull and is attached to a propeller at the other end. “windsurfing” means a non-motorized boat equipped with a surfboard and a freesail system that allows the sail to lie flat in the water without capsizing when not assisted by the operator. The definitions in this Section apply to this Chapter. `powerboat` means a vessel propelled in any way by machinery, including a boat, temporarily equipped with detachable engines. (1) is propelled by an internal engine driving a water jet pump or by an outboard or propeller engine; and “leasing” boats means making a vessel available to others as part of a business.

Outboard, in the context of an engine, refers to a propeller or waterjet engine, usually mounted on the stern of a ship. (2) is designed in such a way that it can be driven by one or more persons sitting, standing or kneeling on the boat and not in the traditional manner of sitting or standing in a motorboat. Principal State of operation: The State in whose waters a ship is most frequently operated or operated in a calendar year. `licence` means the authentic document used to designate the numbers assigned to a vessel and to renew that designation; A pedal boat refers to a boat that is propelled solely by its occupants and uses a one- or two-bladed paddle as a lever without providing a pivot point through rudder locks, hole pins, crutches or similar arrangements. “Operate” means to navigate or use a vessel. `personal watercraft` means a motor vehicle less than sixteen feet in length that uses an inboard motor that drives a jet pump as the main motive force and that is designed to be driven by a person sitting, standing or kneeling on the ship, rather than the traditional way of sitting or standing inside the ship. “Length” of a vessel means the straight distance between the foremost part of the vessel and the rearmost part of the vessel, measured parallel to the centre line, without stiffness. Arcsprits, outboard motor mounts, rudders and other accessories are not included in the length measurement. Personal watercraft: a vessel propelled by a water jet pump or other machinery as the primary source of propulsion and designed to be driven by a person who sits, stands or kneels on the vessel instead of sitting or standing in the hull of the vessel.

Seaplane refers to a vessel that is generally flat and propelled by an aircraft propeller propelled by an engine. “Person” means an individual, partnership, corporation, the Crown and its agencies and subdivisions, and any other legal entity. An open motorboat is a vessel equipped with propulsion engines and an open load holding area that does not have a continuous deck to protect it from water ingress. Operator: the person who has control of a vessel during its operation. `powerboat` means any ship propelled by machinery, whether or not the latter is the main source of propulsion. Reporting authority means a state listed in Annex A to Part 173 of 33 CFR that has a numbering system approved by the Coast Guard or the Coast Guard itself if a numbering system has not been approved. State means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and any other territory or possession of the United States.

Inflatable boat means a vessel that uses a flexible fabric filled with air for buoyancy. “Licensing Officer” means the Commissioner of Natural Resources, the Commissioner of Public Safety and the Deputy Registrars of Motor Vehicles acting in accordance with section 168.33. The cabin powerboat is a vessel propelled by propulsion engines that provides confined spaces in its structure.
